The text tools work entirely in your browser: what you paste is transformed on your own device and is not uploaded to CitationEasy or anyone else. That makes them safe for lists of names and email addresses, draft documents and data you would not paste into an unknown website.

To sort a reference list by the rules of a citation style rather than letter by letter, use the Bibliography Alphabetizer on the Citation & Reference Tools shelf. To count what you have cleaned, use the Counters & Readability shelf; for JSON, CSV and other structured data, Data, Markup & Code.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I remove line breaks from text copied from a PDF?
Paste the text into Remove Line Breaks. By default it removes the single breaks inside paragraphs and keeps the blank lines between them; another mode joins everything into one block. Replace breaks with spaces rather than deleting them, so words on consecutive lines do not run together.
What is the difference between title case and sentence case?
Title case capitalizes the major words of a title (The Origin of Species); sentence case capitalizes only the first word and proper nouns (The origin of species). APA uses sentence case for article and book titles in the reference list and title case in the text; MLA and Chicago use title case.
How do I remove duplicate lines and sort a list?
Paste the list into Remove Duplicate Lines to keep one copy of each, then into Sort Lines Alphabetically. Use the Number Sorter for numbers: sorted as text, 100 comes before 20.
How do I turn a column of items into a comma-separated list?
Paste the column into the Comma Separator and choose the delimiter and whether each item should be quoted. It also works the other way, splitting a comma-separated line back into one item per line.
What are hidden characters, and why do they matter?
Zero-width spaces, non-breaking spaces and look-alike letters from other alphabets are invisible or near-identical on screen but different to a computer. They make searches miss, break code, and defeat duplicate removal. The Hidden Character Detector shows where they are and cleans them out.
Is it safe to paste personal data into these tools?
The text never leaves your browser, so nothing you paste is sent to a server or stored. Close the tab when you are done if you are on a shared computer.
