Monospace Text Generator

Type or paste text and get it back in Unicode's monospace letters and digits โ€” ๐š•๐š’๐š”๐šŽ ๐š๐š‘๐š’๐šœ โ€” ready for a bio, a display name or a post where formatting is not allowed. You also get the same text as Markdown code, the accessible way to show monospace in Discord, Slack and GitHub. Free, no sign-up.

Monospace Unicode (๐š–๐š˜๐š—๐š˜๐šœ๐š™๐šŠ๐šŒ๐šŽ)

Type above to see the result.

Plain-text characters: they paste into bios, display names, posts and comments where no formatting is allowed.

Code formatting for Markdown, Discord and Slack

Type above to see the result.

Real formatting instead of look-alike characters. In an app that reads Markdown this shows in a true monospace font, and screen readers and search read it normally.

Screen readers may announce each letter as a math symbol ("mathematical monospace small h") or skip it, and search, spell check and translation treat these characters as different from ordinary letters.

How to Use the Monospace Text Generator

  1. Type or paste your text. Letters Aโ€“Z and aโ€“z and the digits 0โ€“9 are converted as you type. Spaces, punctuation and emoji stay as they are.
  2. Copy the monospace version. Press Copy on the first card and paste the result anywhere plain text is accepted โ€” a bio, a display name, a caption or a comment.
  3. Or copy the code version. In an app that reads Markdown โ€” Discord, Slack, GitHub, Reddit, Notion โ€” paste the second card instead. It shows in a real monospace font and stays readable to everyone.
  4. Read the note under the result. Any accented letters or other alphabets that have no monospace form are listed there, so a mixed-looking result is explained.

How Monospace Unicode Text Works

In a monospaced typeface every character takes the same width โ€” an i is as wide as an m, the way it was on a typewriter and still is in a code editor. Unicode has no way to say "show this in Courier", but it does encode a complete monospace alphabet as separate characters. They sit in the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block, added in Unicode 3.1 in 2001 so that mathematical notation could keep differently styled variables apart in plain text.

The generator swaps each Basic Latin letter or digit for the character at the same position in that run. Nothing is computed beyond that one-to-one lookup, so the conversion is exact and reversible:

You typeYou getCode pointUnicode name
A๐™ฐU+1D670MATHEMATICAL MONOSPACE CAPITAL A
Z๐š‰U+1D689MATHEMATICAL MONOSPACE CAPITAL Z
a๐šŠU+1D68AMATHEMATICAL MONOSPACE SMALL A
z๐šฃU+1D6A3MATHEMATICAL MONOSPACE SMALL Z
0๐ŸถU+1D7F6MATHEMATICAL MONOSPACE DIGIT ZERO
9๐ŸฟU+1D7FFMATHEMATICAL MONOSPACE DIGIT NINE

Choose Try a sample and print("Hello, world!") # 2026 becomes ๐š™๐š›๐š’๐š—๐š("๐™ท๐šŽ๐š•๐š•๐š˜, ๐š ๐š˜๐š›๐š•๐š!") # ๐Ÿธ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿธ๐Ÿผ. The brackets, quotation marks, comma, exclamation mark and hash keep their ordinary forms, because Unicode encodes monospace versions of letters and digits only. Every converted character lies outside the Basic Multilingual Plane, so it takes four bytes in UTF-8 and two UTF-16 code units โ€” a field that counts code units rather than characters may count each letter twice.

Where Monospace Text Displays

  • Current phones, computers and browsers draw these characters with their built-in math fonts, so they show correctly in most apps on iOS, Android, macOS and Windows.
  • Older devices and minimal fonts may show empty boxes instead. Check the result on a second device before using it somewhere that matters.
  • Usernames and handles on most platforms allow only Basic Latin letters, digits, periods and underscores, so the styled characters are rejected there. Display names, bios, captions and comments usually accept them.
  • Search and sorting treat ๐š๐šŽ๐šก๐š and text as different strings unless the software applies Unicode compatibility normalization (NFKC), which maps each monospace character back to its plain letter. Many apps don't, so a styled word can be invisible to search.

A note on accessibility

These are math symbols that look like letters, not a font. Screen readers may announce each one by name ("mathematical monospace small t"), spell the word out, or skip it entirely, and spell check and translation tools don't recognize the words. Keep styled characters for decoration and write anything people need to read โ€” names, instructions, links โ€” in ordinary text.

Better Ways to Get Real Monospace

Where you are writingWhat to do instead
Discord, Slack, GitHub, Reddit, NotionWrap text in single backticks for inline code (`text`) or put three backticks on the lines above and below a block. The second result card does this for you.
WhatsApp and TelegramThree backticks on each side (```text```) give monospace in WhatsApp; Telegram accepts single backticks for inline code and three for a block.
Word, Google Docs, PagesSelect the text and choose a monospace font such as Courier New, Consolas or Roboto Mono.
HTML and CSSMark code with <code>, keyboard input with <kbd> and blocks with <pre>, or set font-family: monospace.
LaTeXUse \texttt{...} for typewriter type, or the verbatim environment for a block printed exactly as typed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is monospace text?
Text in which every character has the same width, so letters line up in columns the way they did on a typewriter. Programmers use it for code, and writers use it to suggest typed or computer output. This generator produces it with Unicode's monospace letters and digits, which keep that look when pasted as plain text.
Is this a monospace font?
No. A font changes how existing letters are drawn; this tool replaces each letter with a different character that is drawn in a monospace style. That is why the result can be pasted into places that strip formatting โ€” and why a screen reader or a search box treats it as different text from the word you typed.
Why are some characters not converted?
Unicode encodes monospace forms only for the 26 Basic Latin letters in both cases and the digits 0โ€“9. Accented letters such as รฉ, other alphabets, punctuation and symbols have none, so they pass through unchanged. The generator lists any letters or digits it had to leave alone under the result.
How do I write monospace text in Discord?
Put a backtick on each side of the text for inline code, or three backticks on the lines above and below a longer block. Discord then draws it in a real monospace font. Copy the second card in the generator to get the text already wrapped, with the fence lengthened automatically if your text contains backticks itself.
Can I use monospace characters in a username?
Usually not in the handle itself. Most platforms restrict usernames to Basic Latin letters, digits, periods and underscores, so the styled characters are rejected. Display names, bios, captions and comments generally accept them.
Why do I see boxes instead of letters?
The device showing the text has no font with the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block, which happens on older systems and in some embedded fonts. The characters are still there โ€” copy them to a newer device and they appear โ€” but readers on that system will see boxes too.
Can I turn monospace Unicode text back into normal text?
Yes. Each character has a compatibility mapping to its plain letter, so any tool that applies NFKC normalization restores the original. The Unicode Character Inspector shows both the styled characters and their normalized forms.
