Citation checker
A tool that reads a finished document and reports formatting errors and mismatches between in-text citations and the reference list.
The errors a checker finds are the mechanical ones that cost marks: an in-text citation with no reference entry, an entry nothing cites, inconsistent author formatting, a missing hanging indent, a date that differs between the text and the list, an ampersand where the style wants “and”.
It cannot tell you whether a source supports the claim it is attached to, or whether the source is any good. Those are the judgements a checker frees you up to spend time on.
