The Service uses open-source components including Citation Style Language (CSL) and Citation.js. These components are subject to their own respective open-source licenses. Nothing in these Terms restricts any rights you may have under those licenses.

5. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED ON AN “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” BASIS, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, OR COURSE OF PERFORMANCE.

  • The results of using the Service (including generated citations) will meet your requirements or be accurate, reliable, or complete

5.1 Citation Accuracy

While we strive to generate accurate citations, citation formatting standards are complex and subject to interpretation. Citations generated by the Service are provided as a starting point and should be reviewed and verified by the user before submission in academic or professional work. We are not responsible for any errors in generated citations or any consequences arising from reliance on such citations, including but not limited to academic penalties, rejected submissions, or allegations of plagiarism.

6. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL CITATIONEASY, ITS OWNER, OR ITS CONTRIBUTORS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, USE, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, RESULTING FROM:

  • Any conduct or content of any third party on the Service
  • Any content obtained from the Service
  • Unauthorized access, use, or alteration of your transmissions or content
  • Errors, inaccuracies, or omissions in generated citations or other content

IN NO EVENT SHALL OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE SERVICE EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, WHICH, AS THE SERVICE IS FREE, IS ZERO DOLLARS ($0.00 USD).

7. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless CitationEasy, its owner, and its contributors from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, judgments, awards, losses, costs, expenses, or fees (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or relating to your violation of these Terms or your use of the Service.

8. Third-Party Services and Links

The Service may contain links to third-party websites or services that are not owned or controlled by CitationEasy. This includes but is not limited to the Open Library API, DOI resolution services, and advertiser websites displayed through Google AdSense. We shall not be liable to you or any third party for any modification, suspension, or discontinuance of the Service. We also reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. We will post the revised Terms on this page and update the “Last Updated” date. Your continued use of the Service after any such changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.

11. Termination

We may restrict or terminate your access to the Service at any time, for any reason, without prior notice or liability. All provisions of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination shall survive, including but not limited to ownership provisions, warranty disclaimers, indemnification, and limitations of liability.

12. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service shall first be attempted to be resolved through good-faith negotiation.
