About CitationEasy

CitationEasy is a free, open-access citation generator built for students, researchers, and academic writers. It supports 10,832 citation styles and provides a growing collection of writing tools, educational guides, and reference resources — all without requiring a sign-up or subscription.

What We Offer

Built With Open Source

CitationEasy is made possible by a number of excellent open-source projects and APIs. We believe in giving credit where it's due:

  • Citation Style Language (CSL) — the open standard that powers our 10,832 citation styles. CSL is maintained by a community of volunteers and used by reference managers like Zotero, Mendeley, and Papers. The style definitions come from the CSL Styles Repository on GitHub.
  • Citation.js — the JavaScript library that processes citations and formats them according to CSL styles. Created by Lars Willighagen.
  • Open Library API — the free book search API provided by the Internet Archive, used for looking up book metadata by title or ISBN.
  • DOI Foundation — the Digital Object Identifier system used for resolving and validating DOIs.

Created By

CitationEasy was created and is maintained by Samuel Sergi. The goal is simple: provide a genuinely free, high-quality citation tool that doesn't gate features behind paywalls or require an account.

Our Mission

Accurate citations shouldn't cost money. Many citation tools advertise as free but restrict export formats, limit the number of citations, or push users toward premium plans. CitationEasy is committed to being completely free — no sign-up, no limits, no premium tier.

Every feature on this site, from the citation generator to the writing tools and educational guides, is available to everyone at no cost. We believe that academic integrity tools should be accessible to all students and researchers, regardless of their budget.
