- How do I add line numbers to text?
- Paste your text into the input box, pick a starting number and separator, and click Add Line Numbers. Every line comes back prefixed with its number, ready to copy.
- Can I start numbering from a number other than 1?
- Yes. Set the start number field to any value — for example 0 for zero-based numbering, or 42 to continue an existing numbered list.
- What does the zero-padding option do?
- It pads every number with leading zeros to the width of the largest number, so 100 lines are numbered 001, 002, ... 100. This keeps columns aligned in monospaced text and sorts correctly as plain text.
- What happens to blank lines?
- By default blank lines are numbered like any other line. Turn on "Skip blank lines" and they pass through unnumbered while the counter continues on the next non-blank line.
- Can I use my own separator between the number and the text?
- Yes. Choose from the presets — period, colon, parenthesis, or tab — or select Custom and type any separator you like, such as " - " or "] ".
