Random Card Generator

Shuffle a standard deck and draw one card or a whole hand. Add jokers if you like, deal from one deck without putting cards back, and see the exact probability of drawing an ace, a heart or a face card — and, for five cards, which poker hand you were dealt and how rare it is. Free, no sign-up.

Untick it to deal from one shuffled deck without putting cards back.

How to Use the Random Card Generator

  1. 1. Choose the deck. A standard deck has 52 cards. Add one or two jokers if your game uses them.
  2. 2. Set how many cards to draw. One card gives you a random card; five gives you a poker hand; larger numbers deal a bridge or rummy hand.
  3. 3. Pick how the deck behaves. By default every draw uses a freshly shuffled deck, so each press is independent. Untick that option to deal from a single shuffled deck: cards leave it as they are drawn, the count of cards left is shown, and Shuffle a new deck starts over.
  4. 4. Press Draw cards. The cards appear in the order they were dealt. Copy them as text such as A♠ 10♥ K♦.
  5. 5. Read the odds. The table underneath shows your chance of drawing a given kind of card in the number of cards you chose, before you draw.

How the Deck Is Shuffled

The shuffle is the Fisher–Yates algorithm, driven by your browser’s cryptographic random source (crypto.getRandomValues) with rejection sampling. Fisher–Yates works from the end of the deck, swapping each card with a randomly chosen card at or before it, and it gives each of the 52! possible orders — about 8 × 10⁶⁷ — exactly the same chance. Two common home-made shuffles do not: sorting a list with a random comparison, and swapping each card with any card in the deck, both favour some orders. Nothing is drawn until you press the button, and nothing about your draws is sent anywhere.

Card Probabilities Worked Out

Cards dealt from one deck are without replacement: every card drawn changes the odds for the next. For one card the chance is simply the share of the deck: 4 aces in 52 cards is 4/52, about 7.69%. For several cards, the easiest route is to find the chance of missing every time and subtract it from 1. With five cards and four aces among 52, the chance of no ace is (48/52) × (47/51) × (46/50) × (45/49) × (44/48) ≈ 65.88%, so the chance of at least one ace is about 34.12%.

Add a joker and every figure shifts: with one joker there are 53 cards, so an ace on one card is 4/53, about 7.55%. The table in the widget recalculates for whatever deck and card count you choose.

Poker Hand Odds

When you draw exactly five cards from a deck with no jokers, the tool names the poker hand and quotes its frequency. There are 2,598,960 different five-card hands, and each is equally likely. The counts below were checked by classifying every one of them. Each hand is counted once, under its best category, so the flush and straight rows exclude straight flushes.

These are the odds for a five-card hand dealt face down and kept as it is. In draw poker or Texas hold’em you see more cards or replace some, which changes the chances; the table does not apply to those situations.

Uses

  • Games without a deck. Draw a card for tie-breaks, turn order or a quick game of high card when no cards are to hand.
  • Teaching probability. Deal from one deck to show dependent events, and compare the odds table to the results of many draws. Use the Dice Roller and Coin Flip for independent events.
  • Choosing at random. Assign each person a card, or use the suit or colour to split a group into two or four. The Group Generator forms balanced teams directly.
  • Writing and prompts. Use a card as a random seed: rank for a number, suit for a category.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the card shuffle really random?
Yes. It uses the Fisher–Yates algorithm with your browser’s cryptographic random source, so all 52! orderings are equally likely. It is as fair as a thorough physical shuffle and not subject to the small biases of a hand shuffle.
Can I draw the same card twice?
Within a single draw, never: a card cannot be dealt twice from the same deck. Across separate presses it can happen if Shuffle a fresh deck before every draw is ticked, because each press starts from a full deck. Untick that option to deal from one deck until it runs out.
What are the odds of drawing a specific card?
1 in 52 for one draw, about 1.92%. If you draw five cards from a shuffled deck, the chance that a particular card is among them is 5/52, about 9.62%.
How likely is a pair, a flush or a royal flush?
In five cards, one pair is about 42.3%, a flush about 0.197% (1 in 509) and a royal flush about 0.000154% (1 in 649,740). The poker odds table above lists every hand.
Are jokers counted as wild cards?
No. Jokers are just two extra cards, drawn like any other. The poker hand name is shown only for five standard cards, because how a joker plays depends on your house rules.
Is an ace high or low?
In the poker hand names it plays both ways in straights: A-2-3-4-5 and 10-J-Q-K-A are both straights, while Q-K-A-2-3 is not. The cards themselves carry no value, so the tool does not impose a ranking for other games.
Does it work offline, and is anything stored?
Once the page has loaded, the shuffle and the odds run in your browser, and nothing about your draws is sent or stored.
