Frequently Asked Questions
- How does a weighted grade calculator work?
- Each category's percentage is multiplied by its weight, and the results are added together. For example, if exams are worth 40% of the course and you average 90%, exams contribute 36 points to your overall grade.
- What if my weights do not add up to 100%?
- The calculator normalizes automatically. It divides by the total weight you entered, so the result is still your correct current grade based on the categories filled in so far, and a note tells you normalization was applied.
- Can I enter percentages instead of points?
- Yes. Leave the points-possible field at 100 and enter your percentage as the score earned — a 92% simply becomes 92 out of 100.
- What letter grade is 85%?
- On the standard scale used here, 85% is a B. The scale runs A (93+), A- (90+), B+ (87+), B (83+), B- (80+), and continues in the same pattern down to F below 60%.
