- How do I generate a citation for an anthology?
- Enter the editor or editors in the author field, then the anthology's title, edition, publisher, and year, pick your citation style, and click Generate Citation. The source type is already set to 'Anthology / collection', so the editors are labelled correctly — '(Eds.)' in APA, 'editors' in MLA — in the formatted reference.
- Should I cite the whole anthology or just the work I read?
- Cite what you actually used. If you discuss the collection as a whole — its selection, arrangement, or the editors' introduction — cite the whole anthology with the editors in the author position. - How are editors formatted in APA vs MLA?
- APA 7th puts the editors in the author position followed by '(Ed.)' for one editor or '(Eds.)' for several — e.g. 'Gates, H. L., Jr., & Smith, V. A. (Eds.). (2014).' MLA 9th lists them as 'editors' after the name — e.g. 'Gates, Henry Louis, Jr., and Valerie A. Smith, editors.' The generator applies the right label for whichever style you pick.
