Gold open access
Open access provided by the journal itself at publication, typically funded by an article processing charge.
In gold OA the version of record is free on the publisher's site from day one, usually under a Creative Commons licence. The cost moves from reader to author, in the form of an article processing charge that a funder or institution often covers.
“Hybrid” journals sell gold OA per article inside an otherwise subscription title. “Diamond” or “platinum” journals are gold with no charge at all, funded by a society, library, or university.
