Verify This Bibliography

Audit a reference list or manuscript before submission. CitationEasy checks local consistency first, resolves identifiers, searches Crossref and OpenAlex by title for references without one, and flags references that cannot be matched to a real work. Checking references from ChatGPT or another AI tool? Use the Fake Citation Checker.

This is an evidence report, not a correctness badge. It keeps manuscript text in your browser and never uses generative AI to invent or repair bibliographic data.

What to check

Local first

Document extraction, in-text matching, duplicates, and formatting checks run in your browser.

Lookup source shown

Every resolved identifier and title match names the registry or index it came from, with a link to the record.

Uncertainty preserved

References that cannot be matched stay visibly unverified, and a close title match is shown for comparison rather than accepted.

Frequently asked questions

What does the bibliography verifier check?
It checks APA reference-list formatting, duplicate and ordering issues, author–date citations missing from the reference list, uncited references, identifier resolution, strong title or year conflicts with retrieved metadata, and — for references without a working identifier — whether a work with the same title exists in Crossref or OpenAlex.
Is a resolved identifier proof that a citation is correct?
No. Found only means an identifier returned matching metadata, or a title search found a record whose title, authors, and year agree. It does not prove that the source supports your claim, that it has not been corrected or retracted, or that every style detail is correct.
Is my manuscript uploaded?
No. Word and text documents are read in your browser. Extracted DOI, PMID, ISBN, or arXiv identifiers are sent to CitationEasy for metadata lookup. For a reference that needs a title search, your browser sends its title and year (or the reference line, when no title can be picked out) directly to Crossref and OpenAlex. Manuscript prose is not sent.
What does “No record found” mean?
The reference's identifier did not resolve, or it had none, and no work with the same title was found in Crossref or OpenAlex. Fabricated, AI-hallucinated references look like this, but so do many books, reports, web pages, and regional journals, so search for the source by hand before you remove it.
